“The Upanishads are revelations, not the products of individual mind and intellect. By a long process of practice, control and discipline the seers of the Upanishadic Mantras, the Rishis, trained their minds and intellects to soar into the higher realms of greater subtleties and to remain there in angelic poise and grace. When thus the mind is sublimated, the faculty called intuition is awakened in man and Truth is realised intuitively by the seers and sages. They handed down their discoveries to the next generation through their disciples. Upanishads disclose to us the ‘Road to the within’ which is the combined work of many generations of great Thinkers who lived the ideals they had discovered. They do not directly and openly express or explain: but with their indicative meaning in their secret import, in their meaningful suggestiveness, they simply guide us to the very presence of Truth. Hence we always need the interpretations from a Guru to understand fully the meaning of the Upanishads.”

Why the Upanishads?
The Upanishads are the flowering of the Indian Spiritual tradition. One of the fascinating features of the Upanishads is their love and fearless quest of Truth. The spirit of enquiry which possessed the Upanishadic Rishis led them to fearlessly question even their gods and tenets of their traditional faiths in the light of reasoning. They discovered very early in history the difference between opinion and Truth. Paying encomium to the Upanishads, the great thinker Schopenhauer says, “In the whole world there is no study so beneficial and so elevating as that of the Upanishads. It has been the solace of my life; it will be the solace of my death.” Texts and Course Duration The course will be for a duration of 31 days – Feb 1st to March 2nd , 2008 (both days inclusive).
