Nachiketa goes to face Yamaraja, the Lord of Death, and asks a question that confronts all of us – What happens after death? When the teacher (Yamaraja) determines that the student who has asked the question is endowed with all the necessary qualifications of a spiritual seeker, he answers the young boy, barely nine years old. In the process, the teacher reveals the Supreme Reality.

Bhagavan Veda Vyasa has borrowed heavily from Kathopanishad in composing the Bhagavad-gita. Bhashyakara Sri Sankaracharya has written a wonderful bhasya on the Kathopanishad and Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda has elucidated the text in his own unique style.
This Upanishad consists of two main parts, further divided into six chapters. In the first chapter, one finds the story and history of Naciketas and the boons he requested from Yama, the Lord of Death. The second chapter mentions the characteristics required of an aspirant and the path to Liberation. The third chapter explains the relation between the jivatma and the Paramatma, and the manner in which the jiva can overcome death successfully. The fourth, fifth and sixth chapters reinstate the contents of the earlier chapters in a much authoritative way and also relate about re-birth, the way in which a Yogi should leave his body behind and so on.

Kathopanishad is an advanced text and involves serious study and attention.
Students are encouraged to attend the online live classes as it will also provide an opportunity to resolve queries at appropriate opportunities. Students are advised not to miss any class, and if they do miss for any inevitable reasons, they are required to catch up with recordings before attending the next class.
If one is unable to attend the Live Webinar sessions because of time difference and so on, one can watch the recorded sessions that will be made available on the dashboard.
All recordings will be available on the dashboard up to a period of one month post the completion of the webinar.

Shri Anant Sarma’s association with Chinmaya Mission began when he attended Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s jnana yajna in 1981, in Houston, Texas. Since moving to the Washington Metropolitan area in 1989, he has been active in the Mission activities. He has served as a member of the Chinmaya Mission Washington Regional Center (CMWRC) Executive committee and as its Treasurer in the Board of Trustees in the 1990's. As a serious student of Vedanta he attended the Dharma Sevak course in Krishnalaya with Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda in 1998. With Pujya Guruji's blessings, Anantji served as the Vedanta Teacher at the Frederick chapter. His intense study of Vedanta continued at Sandeepany from 2005 to 2007 under Pujya Guruji, who assigned him upon completion of the course to the Virginia chapter of CMWRC.
In Virginia, Anantji was instrumental in merging the Dulles and Springfield chapters into Chinmaya Somnath. He served as the Project Director for the construction of the Center facility in Chantilly, VA, which was inaugurated by Pujya Guruji in 2014. Pujya Guruji appointed him as the President of CMWRC in 2014. He served in that capacity until he moved out of the area. Since 2007, Anantji has been conducting Vedanta classes covering Bhagavad Gita, Prakarana Granthas and Upanishads not only in Virginia, but in other chapters also.
Shri Anant Sarma is a strong supporter of Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) where he briefly served and launched its e-Vedanta course. He is now a regular contributor to its Svadhyaya Series. He has now become a member of CIF family and will be in residence at CIF.
