Thiruppugazh Series – 1 Webinar
Thiruppugazh: Glory of Lord Muruga sung by Poet-Saint Arunagirinathar
Chinmaya International Foundation brings you a webinar on Thiruppugazh. The webinar will be facilitated by Shri Arunachalam Vishwanathan.
Thiruppugazh
Thiruppugazh: literally means Divine Praise. Although all devotional songs proclaim the glory (pugazh) of the Lord (Thiru) and hence can be called as Thirupugazh, only Sage Arunagirinathar’s compositions came to deserve that title because in truth these elegant hymns were prompted by Lord Muruga Himself through the instrument of His ardent devotee, Sri Arunagiri. Thiruppugazh is unique for this reason and many more.
This magnificent word art painted by the great poet-sage Arunagirinathar brings to life the utmost splendor of the Lord’s form along with vivid visualizations of His spectacular feats and mesmerizing sports. It renders the unparalleled valor, unconditional compassion and many other unsurpassable qualities of the Lord through enthralling narrations of instances from puranas and itihasas. A beautiful confluence of Bhakti and Jnana – it ignites the intellect with Vedantic insights and mellows the mind with devotional moods. The rhythms make us dance, cry, hail, shout and be quiet as well. Sage Arunagiri has shown how to live righteously, love the Lord, yearn for Him and meditate upon Him.
He has blessed all of humanity by guiding us in this liberating way to the Lotus Feet of the Lord. It is believed that Arunagirinathar composed over 16,000 songs but only 1365 songs have been traced.
Undoubtedly, Thiruppugazh can grant us both worldly achievements and spiritual attainments. It has the power to heal diseases, atone for sins, scatter away our enemies, purify our mind, enlighten our intellect, enrich our life and liberate ourselves.
