The text Sri Dakshinamurti Stotram is one of the shortest compositions by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, and one of his most profound teachings on Advaita Vedanta in its philosophical import and subtle, poetic expressions. The deep, transformative Vedantic wisdom contained in the ten stotras is meant to destroy one’s ignorance about the real nature of the Self.
Sri Dakshinamurti (Lord Shiva) is praised here in different manifestations, such as a Realised Master; Ishvara – the Creator and the Destroyer; Brahman; as well as a deluded individual bound by his own Maya, in a brilliant lyrical creation set in Shardulavikridita metre.
Employing vivid metaphors throughout the verses, Sri Adi Shankaracharya brings the seeker to the final essential understanding that one’s Self, Guru and God are one and the same in the plane of absolute Reality.
This album contains discourses by Br. Ved Chaitanya recorded during the one-year residential Vedanta Sadhaka Course held at Adi Sankara Nilayam.
