Kandha Sashti, also known as Skanda Sashti or Kanda Shashti, is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Murugan (also known as Skanda or Kartikeya), the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Observed primarily by Tamil Hindus, it typically falls in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October–November), on the sixth day after the new moon. The festival lasts six days, celebrating the victory of Lord Murugan over the demon Surapadman, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
CIF organized a daily parayanam of the Kandha Sashti Kavacham, followed by the chanting of selected devotional songs from various sacred texts, including Kandhar Anubhuti, Kandhar Alangaram, Kandha Puranam, and the songs of Pamban Swamigal. The aim of this initiative is to encourage mass prayer while fostering a deeper interest in the soul-stirring and spiritually uplifting devotional texts, inspiring participants to explore and immerse themselves in these beautiful works of devotion.
