An Exposition of Tat Tvam Asi based on Chandogya Upanishad

"Tat Tvam Asi", the most known Mahavakya, was enunciated by the sage Uddalaka Aruni to his son Svetaketu to explain

the nature of Brahman, the supreme Reality. The sage elucidated the identity between ‘Tat’ – Brahman, the ultimate Truth and ‘Tvam’ – the divinity that resides in us as Atman.

With many examples taken from everyday life, Rishi Uddalaka explains that despite the multiplicity of names and forms, the essential nature of all beings is Brahman. It is the cause of this entire Creation, which pervades every being as its life force, and everything eventually merges in It. We are but this eternal, non-dual Brahman alone. An individual, with the guidance of the Guru and the scriptures, can pierce the veil of ignorance to become one with the Self.

These discourses by Swami Ramakrishnananda were recorded in September 2022, during the Vedanta Sadhaka Course held at Adi Sankara Nilayam.
