Of the 18 puranas, Kandha Puranam is the longest, containing the essence of the Vedas in the form of one lakh granthas. A small portion of this is translated into Tamil language by Kachchiyappa Sivachariyar, a poet-saint who lived in the 11th century. The collection of 10,345 songs is divided into 6 cantos.

The second canto Asura Khanda explores 1929 verses, organised into 43 sections, which expounds the Wisdom of Kashyapa rishi, Masters of Mysticism – Maya & Sukracharya, The Rise of Surapadman, Legendary Feats of Sage Agathiyar, Trials of the Devas, Valour of Maha Shastha, Aja-mukhi’s Complaints and much more.

In this webinar we will study over 200 selected verses with detailed word-by-word meanings, along with story summaries for the remaining verses.

It is believed that those who do parayanam (chanting) and/or listen to the Kandha Purana are assured greatness here and hereafter.
