Svarupanusandhanam

Svarupanusandhanam is a collection of eight verses for reflection on one’s true Nature. It is a glory or eulogy of the contemplation on the nature of the Self.

Svarupanusandhanam begins by highlighting the means – both the external and internal – to attain the supreme Truth. The text also expounds on the method of approaching the teacher.

Having completed the preliminary preparations, the text indicates the main teaching of nature of this Self as Sat, Cit and Ananda, and the direct means to know It.

Further, pointers to the Self are indicated as being the source of the world that has arisen because of ignorance. It is also therefore attained by the negation of the world of names and forms. It is beyond the three states of experience – waking, dream and deep sleep.

The text concludes with a few more pointers to meditation and contemplation on the nature of the Self.
