Thiruvasagam is a revered devotional work in Tamil composed by Manikkavasagar, one of the four prominent saints of Shaiva Siddhanta. This sacred text is a compilation of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva, reflecting deep devotion, total surrender and profound spiritual insight.

Comprising 658 verses across 51 chapters, Thiruvasagam holds such sanctity that its recitation is considered equivalent to chanting the entire Vedas. When recited with sincere understanding, these hymns awaken an intense sense of devotion, stirring the heart and immersing the soul in divine love.

Here is a beautiful excerpt from the text

English Translation

You gave me Yourself, and You took me for Yourself!
Tell me, O Lord Śiva, who is wiser—You or me?
I have received endless joy and bliss from You,
But have I given You even a single thing in return?
O my Lord, You have made my heart Your holy temple,
O Śiva, who resides in the sacred Perunthurai!
O Father, O Lord, You have made my body Your home.
