Sanskrit – The Yogic Health Booster
There is a famous saying “Health is Wealth.” And how rightly so in today’s times! The level of stress and anxiety especially among youth has greatly increased and their health is deteriorating. Ordinarily, a health practitioner/doctor would prescribe certain foods and tonics for increasing the health and vitality of individuals.
But there is one unique and healthy tonic which can directly give one health and vitality. And that is the Sanskrit language! How is it possible?
The entire cosmos is a manifestation of “Prana” or “life energy”. Whatever food and drink we partake is also an indirect consumption of energy only. Modern science also confirms this.
As per Yoga tradition, this entire energy is divided into 49 types of “Maruts” or “winds” or “energy currents” each having a specific name and function to beneficially sustain and regulate the universe. In fact, all these Maruts or energies are present in our human body also. They flow as subtle “Nadis” or “nerve currents” from certain specific subtle points in the spine and brain (known as “Chakras” in Yogic parlance) which sustain and regulate the human body.
Our ancient Rishis/Yogis discovered that each of these Maruts or life energy currents in the universe and in the Chakras emit or have connection to a particular sound which exactly corresponds to the “Akshara” or “Alphabet” of the Sanskrit language (which are said to be varying between 49 to 51 in number). For instance, Agna Chakra (located between the two eyebrows) has 2 sound seeds – Ham and Ksham.
Thus, any time one utters the alphabet of Sanskrit language whether individually or in combination (say through Mantras or Stotras), he or she directly connects with the particular beneficial Maruts or energies and brings the same into manifestation into his or her life.
In other words, recitation of the Sanskrit alphabet either individually or in combination especially with concentration and feeling directly brings in positive energy in the human body thus contributing to well-being of the individual. A body with positive energy in turn also contributes to a positive and healthy mind.
It is also seen that people who regularly chant Sanskrit Mantras and Stotras are more healthy, peaceful and also live long.
The entire manifestation of the cosmos and its energy is also none but the Divine Mother who is “Shakti” Herself. No wonder then that the Vedic hymn Devi Atharva Sheersham says “mantrāṇāṃ mātṛkā devī…” – The Divine Mother is the original sound/alphabet of the Mantras…. All languages have come out from these sound alphabets only and therefore Sanskrit is rightly called the Mother of all languages.
The reference to the Maruts is also made by Bhagavan Shree Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita in Chapter 10 Verse 21 when He says, “Among the Maruts know Me to be Marichi”.
Thus, chanting the Sanskrit Alphabets, Stotras and Mantras also connects us with Shree Devi and Shree Bhagavan.
Thus, through the learning and usage of this wonderful Dev Bhaasha (Language of the Gods), let us all achieve total physical, mental and spiritual well being! You can start your journey here.
