Note: Due to the experiential nature of this new 3-day workshop taught by Dr. Ramesh Pattni, it is mandatory that all three days must be attended live, synchronously, in entirety, either on Zoom or in-person in San Diego, CA. The timings on August 14-16 are between 9:00 am to 6:15 pm PDT, or 12:00 noon to 9:15 pm EDT. This workshop is not offered by recording.
[1 credit=15 contact hours.] This elective course will demonstrate foundational chaplaincy skills. Students will learn how to conduct a brief spiritual assessment and formulate care needs. Participants will learn how to offer safe, consent-based prayers, mantras, silence, and sacred readings. Karma yoga principles will be employed to address guilt, burden, duty, and outcome. How to support families with ritual, grief, and end-of-life care; and how to recognise safeguarding, referral, and documental requirements. There will be ten workshops of 90 minutes each, each consisting of theory, triad practice, and Q&A. Trainer-led demonstrations will lead to practice with realistic healthcare scenarios. A written assignment will be due after the workshop.
Prerequisites: Admission to CIF’s Certificate in Hindu Spiritual Care programme.
