‘Komal Vacha De Re Ram’ is an earnest prayer by Samarth Ramadas Swami, a 17 th century Marathi saint, to the Lord Ram. He has written it in the format of ‘Chaupadi’ – a four-stanza poetic form.
While much of Samarth Ramdas Swami’s literature focuses on strength, action (‘karma’), prudence, and social organization, this set of eleven ‘Chaupadis’ is very mediative, reflecting Samarth Ramdas Swami’s deep devotion, humility and intense urge to work for spiritual upliftment of masses oppressed by Muslim Invaders.
It is asking for not material wealth or power, but for instilling in him certain qualities, granting specific skills and capabilities mainly for ‘Loksangraha’. Samarth Ramdas did intense penance (‘Tapasya’) on the banks of Godavari River near Nasik for twelve years. It is said that he got direct initiation from Lord Ram himself. Thereafter he set out on a twelve-year extensive travel across India for ‘Loksangraha’. Samarth Ramdas composed this earnest prayer at the famous Kalaram temple in Nasik before he started his ‘Bharat Yatra’ seeking divine intervention for spiritual upliftment of people. He starts his prayer by seeking the boon of gentle speech and pure action for connecting with people, reaching the pinnacle in urging for the ultimate boon – merging self with Lord Ram.
