In his very first composition, Dashashloki, Sri Adi Sankaracharya succinctly presents the essence of Vedanta. He reveals that in truth, I am the non-dual Self, and that the body, mind and other upadhis are only incidental to my experience and therefore not my real nature. The Atman, the Self, is declared to be one with the supreme Brahman. As emphasised by the Upanishads, Sankara highlights that the one who realises this Atman alone transcends all worldly sorrow.
