Kena Upanishad (Shankara bhashya)

Kenopanishad is one of the most profound texts of Vedanta, guiding the seeker from the known to the Unknown through the path of enquiry and self-discovery. ‘Kena’ means ‘by whom’, and the Upanishad opens with a series of questions posed by a sincere student to the Guru:
“By whom is the mind directed? Who makes life function? What power enables the senses to perceive and act?”
These questions form the foundation of an inward journey into the nature of Consciousness; the ultimate reality that illumines the mind, senses, and all experiences.
The Guru’s response reveals the subtle truth that Consciousness cannot be objectified or grasped through the intellect alone.
As the Upanishad declares:
“He who thinks he knows It, knows It not. He who thinks he knows not, truly knows.”
Through profound teachings and an illuminating anecdote, the text helps seekers understand the limitations of the mind and recognize the ever-present Self that is beyond thought and perception.
This course presents a systematic study of the Kenopanishad along with Sankara Bhashya – Sri Adi Shankaracharya’s Bhashya (commentary) – enabling students to appreciate both the original mantras and their deeper philosophical significance. Whether you are new to Vedanta or an experienced student, this course offers a structured approach to one of the most inspiring Upanishads.
