In 195 crisp aphorisms, the Yoga-sutra of Patanjali lays down the principles of yogic science, psychology and spiritualism. The rich tradition of Patanjjali’s Yoga has been enriched through the millennia by the scholarly commentary of Veda Vyasa.

The first chapter Samadhi-pada consists of 51 sutras that describe the nature of the mind and the means to dive deep into samadhi. The very definition, Yogascitta-vrtti-nirodhah, sets the highest goal. In nineteen lectures, the eminent academician and author, Prof. Madhusudan Penna, provides an elaborate introduction with explanation of every sutra, through the reading of Vyasa-bhasya.

Prof. Madhusudan Penna, the Dean and Faculty of Indian Religion, Philosophy and Culture, at the Kavikulaguru Kalidasa Samskrit University, Nagpur, delivered these lectures at a 3-week workshop titled ‘Yogo Bhavati Duhkhaha’ organised by CIF Shodha Sansthan in January 2016.
