Saundarya Lahari – Part 5 continues Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati’s exposition of Sri Adi Sankaracharya’s Saundarya Lahari, taking the listener further into the text’s profound vision of the Divine Mother. Building on the earlier discourses, Swamiji explores how the poetry, symbolism, devotion, and tantric practices of the text come together as a means of spiritual transformation.
Traditionally understood in two movements, the Saundarya Lahari begins with Ananda Lahari – ‘Wave of Bliss’, which presents the metaphysics of Shiva and Shakti and the principles of Kundalini Tantra, before moving into Saundarya Lahari – ‘Wave of Beauty’, with its exquisite contemplation of the Divine Mother’s form. Swamiji emphasises that the work is far more than devotional poetry: it is a tantra-shastra, a systematic body of spiritual knowledge and practices that complements Vedic wisdom, supports the pursuit of the purusharthas, and helps the seeker overcome avidya, or ignorance.
Through Swami Sharadananda’s detailed and accessible exposition, Saundarya Lahari – Part 5 invites the listener to look beyond the beauty of the verses and discover the spiritual vision and transformative practices contained within them.
