Vallalar Songs – Bhakti or Jnana?

Vallalar Swami Ramalingam’s songs are simple in language yet immeasurably deep — they feel like a direct conversation with the Supreme Reality. As Vallalar himself said, “நான் உரைக்கும் வார்த்தை எல்லாம் நாயகன் தன் வார்த்தை” (Every word I speak is the Lord’s word).

Collected as Thiruvarutpa, Vallalar’s works number 5,822 songs, arranged into six Thirumurai. These prayerful songs are sweet to listen to, chant, and read — and they lift our prayer time to an elevated, contemplative plane. The songs also carry the essential import of the Vedas, expressed in simple, accessible language.

This webinar introduces 20 selected songs from Thiruvarutpa. Each session provides:

  • Word-for-word meanings to make each line grammatically and semantically clear;
  • Contextual commentary linking the lyrics to Vedanta concepts wherever relevant;
  • Short chants and practical pointers for integrating the song into daily prayer.

Whether you wish to chant with understanding, deepen your study of Vedanta through devotional poetry, or bring richer meaning to your prayer practice, this webinar is designed to make Vallalar’s message approachable and transformative.
