20–20 Series
In just 20 days, learn 20 inspiring songs composed by the saints and sages of Bharat. This series aims to transform our prayers into devotional conversations with the Lord. Each session is thoughtfully designed to help anyone with basic Tamil literacy to: Read and understand the verses easily Connect with the meaning behind the hymns Experience a serene and prayerful way of living After the much-loved Thiruvasagam 20–20, we are delighted to present the next in the series – Vallalar 20–20. Vallalar Shri Ramalinga Swamigal, lovingly known as Vallalar, was born in a humble village in Tamil Nadu. From a tender age, he experienced divine grace – having the darshan of Lord Muruga in his childhood. A revolutionary saint and visionary, Vallalar guided countless devotees to embrace Tamil and Shaiva philosophy with love and sincerity. At just nine years old, he began composing divine hymns that would later form his monumental work – “Thiruvarutpa”, a collection of 5,822 songs divided into six Thirumurais.
The Eternal Maha Mantra
Arut Perum Jothi, Arut Perum Jothi, Thani Perum Karunai, Arut Perum Jothi.
This radiant mantra – celebrating the Infinite Divine Light of Grace – was constantly on Vallalar’s lips and continues to uplift hearts across generations.
His Legacy
Vallalar’s compassion and inclusiveness knew no bounds. He established the Jnana Sabai – a sacred space for prayer, chanting, meditation, and self-realization. He also founded many Dharma Salais, where annadhanam (free food service) continues throughout the year, nurturing both body and spirit. Even after merging into the five elements in 1874, Vallalar’s presence remains ever-luminous through his divine songs, teachings, and the Maha Mantra, guiding seekers toward a life of devotion, compassion, and oneness.
