Upanishads, Brahmasutra and Bhagavad Gita are the three basic texts of the Vedanta and are collectively called ‘Prasthana-traya’. Every Upanishad reveals the knowledge of the oneness of the Self with the Supreme that destroys ignorance, which is the cause of all problems. Brahmasutra, authored by Sri Veda Vyasa, expounds the principles of Advaita Vedanta by stringing together the important thoughts presented in the Upanishads. The detailed commentary by Sri Adi Shankaracharya is invaluable for our understanding of the text. A clear understanding of the priceless concepts of Vedanta can be attained by studying the first four sutras, also known as the ‘Chatuhsutri’. The third edition of this immersive series focuses on the second sutra of the Brahmasutra – ‘janmadyasya yatah’ (janmadyadhikarana) – that reveals the very definition of Brahman.
