This magnificent Suktam from the Rigveda is deeply connected to the description and worship of Sri. Sri, the Trigunatmika Mahamaya—embodiment of the three gunas—is the creative force of Purusha, manifesting as the powers of desire, knowledge, and action. She is the radiant Divine Mother of the Universe, who not only gives birth to creation but also sustains and protects it. Through the power of Mahamaya, the One Brahman appears as the multiplicity of the world.
This Suktam consists of 15 distinct mantras—each in a different metre, composed by different sages, and praising the Divine Mother in various forms of Mahalakshmi. These mantras seek Her grace and blessings for material abundance, protection from all forms of adversity, and ultimately, liberation.
These discourses by Swami Sharadananda Sarasvati were recorded in September 2022 during the Vedanta Sadhaka Course held at Adi Sankara Nilayam.
