Manisha-pancakam is a fine composition of Shri Adi Shankaracarya, prompted by an encounter with an outcast and his four dogs, on the banks of a river in Varanasi.
A spontaneous flow of meter, in response to a provocative question by the outcast, is an introductory treatise (prakarana-grantha) on Vedanta. In just five verses, Shri Shankara elucidates the four mahavakyas in the most lucid manner, making this text invaluable for any student of Advaita-vedanta.
