Self knowledge cannot grant the Self as the Self is already there, it is nitya-mukta. In ignorance it is covered, just as the clouds cover the sun.

Self knowledge only removes the veiling of ignorance and the Self which is already there shines on its own, just as a wind would blow the clouds away and the sun shines on its own. Just as the wind did not create the sun, Self knowledge does not grant the Self.

      Hope this answers the query.

Self Knowledge doesn’t grant you the Self, that you already are. Self-knowledge removes ignorance by uncovering the mere coverings and pointing to the true unchanging Self that you already are.
