Astika Darsanas

This Course  introduces six orthodox schools of Indian philosophy (Āstika Darśanā)- Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Nyāya, Vaiśeṣika, Pūrva Mīmāṁsā, and Uttara Mīmāṁsā (Vedānta). These systems which are rooted in the authority of the Vedās, explore profound insights into Jīva, Jagat and Īśvar (supreme Reality).

A total of six video lectures by Prof.Gauri Mahulikar are made available to the registered students. The lectures focus on Prameya (that which is to be known), Pramāṇa (means of knowledge), and Pramāta (the knower). Additionally, the concept of Mokṣa or Liberation in each system is also explored.

Preamble to Āstika Darśanas.

• Overview of Sāṅkhya, Yoga, Nyāya, Vaiśeṣika, Pūrva Mīmāṁsā, and Uttara Mīmāṁsā.
• Key topics covered by each school: Cosmology, Metaphysics, Psychology, Epistemology and Liberation
• How the different schools interpret the Vedās and their authority

Requirements

Learners of all ages who wish to explore the six Āstika Darśanas and their timeless insights into reality, self and the universe are welcome to participate. The philosophical concepts, rooted in Sanskrit terms and classical texts, will be explained in English to ensure clarity and accessibility. A basic proficiency in English is essential for participants to gain the most from the explanations.
