Intellect - Steady and Unsteady
Verse 2.41:
व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिरेकेह कुरुनन्दन |
बहुशाखा ह्यनन्ताश्च बुद्धयोऽव्यवसायिनाम् ||
vyavasāyātmikā buddhir ekeha kuru-nandana |
bahu-śākhā hy anantāś ca buddhayo ’vyavasāyinām ||
For the intellect which has been cultivated and steady, since this buddhi is one-pointed and born out of clear perception of the truth, it destroys the other thoughts which are multi-pronged. Here it is on the path of supreme good, O delight of the Kuru dynasty.
The other thoughts with many pronged branches which are endless the world of names and forms which keep changing which is difficult to cross. Owing to the intellect which is generated from direct perception with discrimination between who am I and what is not I. it destroys the multi-pronged thoughts too.
Of those people who have many-branched thoughts and many different thoughts or with differences arising out of each branch endlessly, they are uncultivated unlike the intellect which distinguishes between the Self and not-self.
Avatarika: For those who do not have this cultivated intellect:

Verse 2.42:
यामिमां पुष्पितां वाचं प्रवदन्त्यविपश्चितः |
वेदवादरताः पार्थ नान्यदस्तीति वादिनः॥
yām imāṁ puṣpitāṁ vācaṁ pravadanty avipaścitaḥ |
veda-vāda-ratāḥ pārtha nānyad astīti vādinaḥ ||
The people who have studied the scriptures but have not realised the truth of the Self speak very clearly flowery words like these trees. They are not people who know with clarity, whose memory of truth is very poor and lack discrimination. They say that there is nothing else other than the practises and actions to attain heavens after death. They have the nature of speaking like this.
– Brahmacharini Sharanya Chaitanya.
