Sankara Bhashya–Part 12

The one who lives is eternal

Verse 2.30:

देही नित्यमवध्योऽयं देहे सर्वस्य भारत।
तस्मात्सर्वाणि भूतानि न त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि॥
dehī nityam avadhyo ’yaṁ dehe sarvasya bhārata|
tasmāt sarvāṇi bhūtāni na tvaṁ śocitum arhasi||

The one who lives in the Deha, Shareera is the Dehi or Shareeri – is eternal. The indweller has no parts and hence cannot be killed at any time or in any condition. He is eternal and hence too incapable of being killed. Also because He is seated in this body which decays and in all the bodies, capable of moving everywhere by staying in the bodies of even plants.

Even when all the bodies born of energy can be destroyed, the indweller cannot be destroyed. As a result of that, therefore, it is not fit for you to worry about Bhishma and others and on account of all beings.

Avatarika: Introduction to the next verse: When thinking about the supreme reality, there is no presence of sorrow or delusion. This is the thought that is conveyed in this verse. This thought is not in connection with the supreme truth alone. The next verse says…

 Brahmacharini Sharanya Chaitanya.
