ParticipantHari Om. I have the exact same question. Can someone please explain why Mind is said to be predominantly made of Sattva? Every individual has all 3 gunas in different proportions. So, why is it said that the mind is made of Sattva?

ParticipantEverything in creation originates from maya. Maya is trigunatmika, composed of all the three gunas. Therefore any effects that comes from maya will also have the three gunas. That includes the mind also. The variety in creation is due to different proportion of the three gunas. The operative word when describing about the mind is, predominantly. The mind is predominantly sattva and that means rajas and tamas are also there. The expression of sattva is knowledge and that is why the mind has the ability to know.
The extension to varna division involves various other factors and not just the mind. To say just because every human being has a mind and mind being predominantly sattva, everyone should be a brahmana is not warranted.
